Nora Lofts is a very prolific and accomplished writer of historical fiction and I have read everything by her I can get my hands on as she doesn't disappoint. This brief work features synopses of the lives of the queens of England from Boadicea of Roman times through Elizabeth II and includes just enough detail to whet the appetite to learn more. Personally, my interest wanes after Elizabeth I, as I have always found the lives of medieval personages to be more interesting than those of modern times, although Lofts does justice to each. The volume includes beautiful reproductions of portraits and sculptures of the women discussed, although I would have appreciated a bibliography with references to further reading. Lofts' writing is elegant and skillful and she really knows how to turn a phrase! Nothing extensive here, but these thumbnails do provide insights not always included in other works and what is offered certainly whets the appetite. As an overview and summary of royal women through the centuries, this is a very satisfying introduction.

As a history buff, I loved this book. It gives you an insight into the queens of the once most powerful country in the world. It make gaining knowledge fun to read and improves our minds. Very enjoyable reading
Happy to get this book
I read lots of historical novels (ie, Phillipa Gregory) about British royalty between 1400-1850. This book is an invaluable resource; I go to it whenever I am not sure who was who's spouse and how a particular queen fit into the picture.
One to keep referring back to when reading English history.

I used to own this book years ago then sold it at a garage sale. I kicked myself for years for selling it especially when I needed to refer back to it! Well worth owning and reading!
This book has been around for years. I wore out my first copy and I am only up toHenry VIII. It's basic for my study of English history. Very good and as far as I know it's accurate.
